Use this lumber weight calculator to estimate weight from actual dimensions or total board feet, species density, quantity, and moisture content. The result exposes the density and volume used so you can see what drives the estimate instead of relying on a generic weight-per-board shortcut.

Check the weight inputs

Weight is only as credible as the actual dimensions, species identification, moisture estimate, and scope of what is included.

Worked example

  1. One actual 1.5 × 3.5 in × 8 ft board has 0.2917 cubic ft of wood.
  2. At the 34 lb/ft³ 12%-moisture density used by the engine, one board is about 9.92 lb.
  3. Ten boards total about 99.17 lb before straps, hardware, mud, ice, or other cargo.

Keep uncertainty proportional to the decision

A shop-handling estimate can tolerate average density. A vehicle, rack, hoist, or crane near its limit cannot. Add margin and obtain a scale weight or qualified approval when the consequence of an underestimate is material.

Boards, panels, and logs are different products

This engine models rectangular solid lumber. Adhesives and layered construction change panel density, while taper, bark, voids, and moisture gradients make logs a different calculation. Use the matching product-specific tool or measured data.
